“Just because you do not have an ailment, it doesn’t mean you are healthy,” Sadhguru explains. “You are healthy if you wake up in the morning and feel like you are just born.”
Clearly, being healthy means a lot more than not being sick. When it comes to our health, food plays a major role. According to Sadhguru, 40 to 50% of our food should be raw or “live food,” as he calls it. Consuming food in its raw form helps improve energy levels in the body.
The reason is that raw food itself has enzymes that aid in the digestion process. When the food is cooked, those enzymes get destroyed, leaving the whole process of digestion to be handled by the body without any help.
When we eat cooked food, the body must produce the enzymes needed to digest the food. That process takes one and a half hours, and during that period, we feel a lack of energy.
There’s more. No matter how good our digestion is, the body will not be able to reconstitute whatever got destroyed during the cooking of the food.
Food is fuel for the body. If we put the right kind of fuel in the body, it functions properly. The message is clear – Eat right and be happy.
